Common Causes of Fire in Transformers
1. Due to the use of low-quality materials such as insulating oil, diamond-shaped glue paper, or maintenance errors during the production process of the transformer, or long-term overload operation, the insulation of the internal coil is damaged, short circuit occurs, causing fire or explosion.
2. The production process is not strictly in accordance with the regulations, resulting in poor joint connection, excessive contact resistance, and local high temperature fire.
3. When the electrical equipment is short-circuited or overloaded, the transformer does not start the protection device in time, which will also cause the transformer to overheat, thereby causing the combustibles inside the transformer to catch fire.
4. Due to long-term use and lack of timely maintenance, the internal insulating oil of the transformer has undergone qualitative changes, or oil leakage, oil shortage, etc., which reduces the heat dissipation capacity of the oil and causes overheating and fire.
5. Affected by natural factors, such as being struck by lightning or being damaged by animals, fires occur.
Correct Emergency Treatment Methods
Power off to extinguish fire
1. Cut off the power supply immediately. When a transformer is found to be on fire, quickly cut off all power supplies connected to the transformer.
2. Fire extinguishing.
If the oil tank is not damaged, dry powder, CO2 and other fire extinguishing agents can be used to extinguish the fire.
If a large amount of oil flows out of the oil tank and burns, spray water or foam can be used to extinguish the fire. Oil fires that flow to the ground can be buried with sand and soil.
Live fire extinguishing
When encountering a situation where the power cannot be cut off in the first time, live fire extinguishing is also required. The key issue is to solve the risk of electric shock.
1. Use a fire extinguisher. Use the insulation capacity of commonly used fire extinguishing agents and the minimum safe distance of using fire extinguishers to operate fire extinguishing. For example, CO2, dry powder fire extinguishers, etc., but pay attention to the position and distance.
2. Start the machine fire extinguishing device to extinguish the fire. For example, water spray fire extinguishing device.
After understanding the knowledge of transformer fire, when we face a fire in the transformer, we need to deal with it calmly, ensure the safety of personnel first, call for help in time, use knowledge to deal with it urgently, and reduce greater losses.
