For the beauty industry, the cosmetics industry continues to develop, from the initial channel market, marketing market, slowly into the upstream market, on the one hand, research and development of science and technology is more and more important to the brand, on the other hand, the market demand for product value is getting higher and higher, and the product value of the main on the innovation from the package material enterprises to promote.

In fact, the role of cosmetic packaging is not only to attract consumers, for the material body, packaging also provides essential storage space and protection function.

Cosmetic packaging is divided into two kinds of internal and external packaging materials, the internal packaging materials directly in contact with the material body, the choice of which form is closely related to the composition of the product.

Common cosmetic packaging materials: plastic bottles, glass bottles, flexible tubes

Plastic bottles

Plastic bottles are made of a variety of materials, including ABS, PP, PE, PET, AS and so on. Among them, PP, PE, PET is an environmentally friendly material, can be directly in contact with the contents; PP, PE is semi-transparent, native white, can be made into a variety of hardness; PET is transparent, light weight, soft material.

Glass bottles

In cosmetics, they are mainly used for creams, ointments, lotions, essences, essential oils and other products with small volume. According to the type of bottle mouth, glass bottles can be divided into wide-mouth bottles and narrow-mouth bottles. Wide-mouth bottles are mostly used for creams, applicator masks and other solid cream cosmetics, while narrow-mouth bottles are generally used for aqueous and lotion cosmetics. Glass bottles are usually paired with caps, pump heads, or used with droppers to better ensure product cleanliness and hygiene.

Perfume products often use glass bottles to better prevent liquid evaporation, to maintain the perfume smell.

Plastic tubes

According to the number of layers of single-layer, double-layer, five-layer points; according to the material can be divided into plastic tubes and metal tubes, etc., the most common plastic tubes, that is, the ordinary facial cleansing milk using the packaging, the general use of PE plastic. Flexible tube packaging has a good airtight, can isolate the outside air, while preventing the contents from leaking out. The impermeability of different layers of tubes varies. The hose is usually paired with a swivel cap or flip cap, and the tube body can be silk-screened and other processes.

Special inner packaging materials: dark glass bottles, vacuum pumps, metal tubes, ampoule

Dark glass bottle

photosensitive ingredients in cosmetics oxidised by ultraviolet radiation may not only lose their activity and efficacy, but may even become allergenic and toxic. In order to avoid such ingredients being photolytically oxidised by ultraviolet light, it is necessary to do light-avoidance treatment to the packaging, usually in dark-coloured opaque glass bottles, dark brown glass bottles are the most common.

To ensure ease of use and product hygiene, dark glass bottles are often used with droppers. Cosmetic brands that focus on efficacious ingredients often use dark glass bottles to ensure that the ingredients work.

Vacuum pumps

Although dark glass bottles have good shading, they can only completely isolate the air before use, and are not suitable for ingredients with higher requirements for air isolation, as well as oil and grease ingredients that are easy to oxidise. Vacuum pumps can be used if the product ingredients have higher requirements for package containment.

Vacuum pumps are generally made of AS material, which can well isolate the contents from the outside air. Vacuum pump has a piston at the bottom of the bottle, when the pump head is pressed, the piston at the bottom of the bottle moves upwards, the contents flow out, the bottle space is reduced, the air will not enter.

Metal tubes

Because the vacuum pump is made of plastic, so the shading is not good, if the product composition of the shading and isolation of air both have high requirements, it is necessary to use metal hose.

High concentration of Vitamin A alcohol products are usually stored in aluminium tubes, compared with plastic materials, aluminium tubes have a stronger seal, and can be shielded from light and moisture, which can better protect the activity of the contents.

Ampoules

Ampoules can store the active ingredients in a sealed container and are for one-time use, which can isolate the air and contaminants and ensure product hygiene. In addition, ampoules made of glass can be made in dark colours to give them a good protection from light. Aseptically filled, single-use ampoules can be used without added preservatives, providing a new option for consumers with severely sensitive skin or those who do not want to use preservative-containing products.

In short, choose the right material package according to the actual needs of the situation.
