Packaging machinery can be classified in various ways.
Based on functionality, it can be categorized as:
- Single-function packaging machines
- Multi-function packaging machines
Based on the intended use, it can be divided into:
- Internal packaging machines
- External packaging machines
Based on the type of packaging, it can be further divided into:
- Specialized packaging machines
- General-purpose packaging machines
Based on the level of automation, it can be classified into:
- Semi-automatic machines
- Fully automatic machines, etc.
The table shows the classification of packaging machinery. There are many types and classification methods of packaging machinery. From different perspectives, there can be multiple classifications, for example:
- Based on the state of the product: There are liquid, solid, granular, paste, adhesive, electronic combination scale packaging, pillow-type packaging machines, etc.
- Based on the packaging function: There are internal packaging, external packaging machines, etc.
- Based on the packaging industry: There are food, daily chemical, textile packaging machines, etc.
- Based on the packaging station: There are single-station, multi-station packaging machines, etc.
- Based on the degree of automation: There are semi-automatic, fully automatic packaging machines, etc.
There are many other methods for classifying packaging machinery, each with its characteristics and applicable scope, but also with limitations. From an international perspective, a more scientific method of classification is by the main function, which captures the essence of the machinery. The basic classifications are as follows:
1. Filling Machines (Fillers)
Filling machines are used to fill precise amounts of products into various containers. Main types include:
- Volumetric filling machines: Including cup, tube, piston, level, screw, timing fillers.
- Weighing filling machines: Including intermittent weighing, continuous weighing, weight-centrifugal division fillers.
- Counting fillers: Including single-piece counting and multiple-piece counting fillers.
2. Sealing Machines
Sealing machines seal containers filled with products. Main types include:
- Sealers without sealing material: Including heat press, cold press, fusion, interlocking, folding sealers.
- Sealers with sealing material: Including screw, knurling, crimping, pressing sealers.
- Sealers with auxiliary sealing material: Including tape, adhesive, stapling, tying, sewing sealers.
3. Wrapping Machines
Wrapping machines use flexible packaging materials to wrap all or part of the product. Main types include:
- Full-wrap wrappers: Including twist, cover, skin, seam wrappers.
- Partial-wrap wrappers: Including folding, shrinking, stretching, winding wrappers.
4. Multifunctional Packaging Machine
This type of packaging machine has two or more functions. Its main types include:
- Fully Automatic Pillow-Type Filling and Sealing Machine: This machine has both filling and sealing functions.
- Form-Fill-Seal Machine: It possesses the functions of forming, filling, and sealing. The forming types include bag forming, bottle forming, box forming, blister forming, and melt forming, among others.
- Preformed Filling and Sealing Machine: It features preforming, filling, and sealing functions.
- Double-Sided Case Sealer: Capable of sealing both the top lid and the bottom of the box simultaneously.
5.Classification of Case Sealers
Based on the position and number of tapes used for sealing:
- Type I Case Sealer: Seals the top lid and the bottom of the box at the external flaps' seams with a single strip of tape.
- Type H Case Sealer: Based on the Type I sealer, it adds two strips of tape at the ends of the I-type sealing tape, forming an H-like shape.
Based on the degree of specialization:
- Universal Case Sealer: Can adjust certain mechanisms to change the related dimensions of the case sealer, accommodating a variety of box sizes for sealing.
- Dedicated Case Sealer: Can only seal boxes of a specific size and dimension, offering a fast sealing speed suitable for large-volume box sealing operations.
- Random Case Sealer: Within a specified size range, the relevant mechanisms can automatically adjust to accommodate different box sizes as needed for sealing.
