The two airlines pointed out that the memorandum of understanding provides them with a framework to increase their market share and cooperation in the fields of cargo and frequent passenger programs.

Previously, China Southern Airlines opened a new route from Guangzhou to Doha in April and deployed a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

As part of the strengthened cooperation memorandum, Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines have stated that they will provide frequent flyer benefits to their respective privileged clubs and Sky Pearl Club members. This includes collecting and consuming Avios/Miles on flights of Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines, as well as providing level benefits in the form of lounge usage rights and other airport services.

Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer said, "As part of our strong partnership with China Southern Airlines, Qatar Airways is building on the success of the new route from Doha to Guangzhou, which opened in April this year, to provide passengers from both airlines with more choices.".

"Working with our main partners to serve the excellent Chinese market is a proud milestone for us, and we look forward to expanding our award-winning services to passengers flying to China," added the CEO of Qatar Airways.

"In April this year, China Southern Airlines launched a direct flight from Guangzhou to Doha, which has strongly promoted the connectivity between China and countries and regions along the Belt and Road. In the future, China Southern Airlines will deepen cooperation with Qatar Airlines, strengthen mutual complementarity of advantages, and work together to bring more comfortable and convenient travel experience to our passengers," said Han Wensheng, president and CEO of China Southern Airlines.

China Southern Airlines is headquartered in Guangzhou and is the airline with the largest route network coverage and annual passenger volume in China.
